5 Ingredient Apple Dumplings

Sometimes the best desserts are the simplest ones. These 5 Ingredient Apple Dumplings are proof that you don’t need a long list of fancy ingredients to make something warm, cozy, and completely irresistible. With buttery layers, tender apples, and a touch of sweetness, this recipe comes together quickly and is perfect for busy weeknights or last-minute gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 2 large apples (peeled, cored, and cut into 8 wedges each)
  • 1 can refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup lemon-lime soda (such as Sprite or 7-Up)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the apples: Peel, core, and slice the apples into 8 even wedges each. Set aside.
  2. Wrap the dumplings: Unroll the crescent dough and separate it into individual triangles. Place one apple wedge at the wide end of each triangle and roll it up tightly, tucking in the sides if needed. Place each dumpling seam-side down in a lightly greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  3. Make the butter mixture: In a small bowl, stir the melted butter and sugar together until well combined. The mixture will be grainy—this is normal.
  4. Coat the dumplings: Pour the butter-sugar mixture evenly over the wrapped apples, making sure each dumpling gets a good coating.
  5. Add the soda: Slowly pour the lemon-lime soda around the edges and in between the dumplings. Avoid pouring it directly on top so the crescent dough can brown nicely.
  6. Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) and bake for 35–40 minutes, or until the dumplings are golden brown, the sauce is bubbling, and the apples are tender.
  7. Serve: Let cool for about 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy them warm as-is, or make it extra special with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
