OLD-FASHIONED BUTTER ROLLS

A true Southern comfort classic — tender, fluffy rolls baked in a sweet, buttery cream sauce. They taste like a cross between bread pudding and cinnamon rolls, and they’ll melt in your mouth every single bite!

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 Tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 6 Tbsp cold butter, cubed
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 1 stick (½ cup) butter, melted
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups whole milk (for sauce)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in ¾ cup milk to form a dough.
  3. Roll dough into a rectangle, brush with melted butter, and sprinkle with sugar + vanilla. Roll up and cut into 8–10 pieces.
  4. Place rolls in dish. Heat 2 cups milk with remaining butter and sugar until warm (don’t boil). Pour over rolls.
  5. Bake 35–40 minutes, until golden and bubbly.
  6. Serve warm with the creamy sauce spooned over the top.
