Sloppy Joes just got an upgrade! Piled high on buttery Texas toast, this version is rich, cheesy, and full of flavor—comfort food at its best.
Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey)
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 package frozen Texas toast with garlic (about 8 slices)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or mozzarella)
Instructions:
- Cook the toast: Bake the Texas toast according to package directions until golden and crispy.
- Prepare the meat mixture: In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat. Drain excess fat.
- Add flavor: Stir in onion and garlic; cook until softened. Add ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until thickened.
- Assemble: Spoon the sloppy joe mixture generously onto each slice of Texas toast.
- Cheese it up: Sprinkle shredded cheddar over the top and return to the oven for 2–3 minutes, just until the cheese melts.
- Serve hot: Enjoy as open-faced sandwiches with a side of fries, salad, or pickles!
